HISTORY:
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), NIT Raipur was established in the year 1958 (formerly, the Department of English under the Government College of Engineering and Technology). The Department at present is one of the emerging departments, with a plethora of research and teaching endeavors in the subject areas (Core and Allied) of English literature, Linguistics, Sociology, Management and Consumer Psychology, Yoga and Health, Value Education for Consciousness Development.
The department largely helps to:
Develop Verbal and non-verbal communication skills and conceptualize the neuro-cognitive aspects of language.
Assimilate and Practice Higher Order Managerial Decision Making Skills.
Learn and practice Yoga for healthy and sound living.
To develop the ability to understand "coexistence-based living" through Value Education
VISION:
To render world class professionals efficient in communicative, managerial and entrepreneurial skills. Aimed at enhancing placement prospects of Engineers and Technocrats in leading multinational companies, public sector undertakings and other entrepreneurial ventures.
