Civil Engineering
Welcome to Department of Civil Engineering, NIT Raipur
The Civil Engineering department at NIT Raipur focuses on students multifaceted development to give them not only the essential theoretical and practical knowledge of the field, but also to develop them into self-assured individuals who are prepared to make an impact in whatever field (industry work, research, or entrepreneurship) they choose to pursue. Currently, the department offers B. Tech, M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees with specializations in Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Water Resources that are primarily research based anchored by a dissertation at the end of a studentship. Our wide selection of fundamental and advanced courses enables the solid foundation required for cutting edge work in research, industry and entrepreneurship.

Mission of the Civil Engineering department:
M1: To provide students a comprehensive education with strong foundation in civil engineering fundamentals.
M2: To facilitate learning environment for imbibing sustained lifelong learning facilitated through involvement in creative activities.
M3: To inculcate professional ethics and human values for the sustainable development and benefit of society.
The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) of the Civil Engineering department:
P1: To prepare graduates with sound fundamental concepts and skills to provide sustainable solutions for various civil engineering problems.
P2: To encourage and align graduates in developing attitude for research and innovation so as to make them adaptable to global professional requirements.
P3: To inculcate a human insight and outlook with professional ethics in graduates to enable them in providing sustainable solutions for benefit of society.
Program Specific Outcomes:
PSO-1: Graduates will develop ability to apply fundamental concepts and innovative ideas through lifelong learning to solve various Civil Engineering problems for sustainable development.
PSO-2: Graduates will inculcate required attitude and skill sets to work cohesively in multi-disciplinary and diverse cultural global professional environment.
PSO-3: Graduates will develop empathy and sensitiveness to design, execute, implement, manage, maintain and rehabilitate diverse systems ensuring sustainable development for the benefit of society.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES (POs)
Engineering Graduates will be able to:
PO1: Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science, computing, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to develop to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO2: Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions with consideration for sustainable development.
PO3: Design/Development of Solutions: Design creative solutions for complex engineering problems and design/develop systems/components/processes to meet identified needs with consideration for the public health and safety, whole-life cost, net zero carbon, culture, society and environment as required.
PO4: Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Conduct investigations of complex engineering problems using research-based knowledge including design of experiments, modelling, analysis & interpretation of data to provide valid conclusions.
PO5: Engineering Tool Usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering & IT tools, including prediction and modelling recognizing their limitations to solve complex engineering problems.
PO6: The Engineer and The World: Analyze and evaluate societal and environmental aspects while solving complex engineering problems for its impact on sustainability with reference to economy, health, safety, legal framework, culture and environment
PO7: Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics, human values, diversity and inclusion; adhere to national & international laws.

The syllabus of NIT Raipur has been designed in keeping with the present requirements of the Industry. The endeavor of apprising the student of the latest in Civil Engineering has resulted in up gradation of the syllabus from time to time, the latest changes being brought into effect from 2000.
