Domain of Research

Numerical approximations and simulation

  • PhD in ‘Investigation of large amplitude dynamic behaviour of axisymmetric structural elements’, the thesis reports static and dynamic behaviour of axisymmetric objects, mainly, rotating disks and internally pressurized thick cylinders. The technique used to carry out the investigation is based on variational formulation by applying Minimum Potential Energy principle in static domain and Hamilton’s principle in dynamic domain. The analysis up to limit state and extended study in post-elastic domain is based on von-Mises failure yield criterion and its associated flow rule assuming linear strain hardening (bilinear) material behaviour and Hencky’s Total Deformation theory. In each case, assuming a series approximation of the unknown field, following Galerkin’s principle, the solution of the governing equation is obtained, validated and applied.
  • Post PhD, my research endeavors are focused upon thermal and thermo-mechanical analysis of structures. Functionally graded material behaviour is considered for the investigation of annular fin performance. Also axisymmetric structural analysis is extended to functionally graded structures.
  • Fluid structure interaction is also an area wherein a part of my research group is presently working. Numerical simulations of flow field and FSI is presently worked upon. Apart from the standard simulation codes, in-house codes of approximation methods based on b-spline collocation and LBM have been developed and validated.
  • In a broader sense, my research interests lie in the domain of mathematical modeling, numerical approximations and simulation of mechanics related problems.
  • National Institute of Technology Raipur, India, is an institute of national importance and is committed to the task of developing technical education by preparing seasoned graduates in the sophisticated field of engineering and technology. Apart from my academic duties, being Assistant Professor, in Mechanical Engineering, I am Professor in-Charge of CAD Lab. Being Programme- Coordinator to M.Tech. (Machine Design) adds to my administrative responsibilities.
  • After completing ME in Machine Design from Department of Mechanical Engineering, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, I started my PhD in the same Lab. I was awarded State Government Fellowship for pursuing PhD in the year 2006. Following this, I was awarded the SRF from CSIR, India.
