About Department of Computer Applications
Mission: The Department of Computer Applications at National Institute of Technology Raipur imparts quality education through the best possible post-graduate educational programs in the field of computer applications in order to meet the needs of professional societies, the community, and the nation; providing a conducive environment for research.
Vision: To provide best possible education that would help in developing students with the strong and technical backgrounds needed to achieve excellence in the field of computer applications.
Also to prepare professionals who provide leadership and exemplary educational and technical services to improve the lives of individuals in a global changing and complex society.
About the Department: Department of Computer Applications (MCA) is established in the year 1986 in the erstwhile Government Engineering College Raipur with an intake of 30 students. Later on in the year 2000 after the formation of state of Chhattisgarh the intake is increased to 60.
In the year 2005 on the upgradation of the Institute the Department is now known as Department of Computer Applications National Institute of Technology Raipur.
Induction to MCA Program is through national level entrance examination i.e. NIMCET (National Institutes Master of Computer Applications Entrance Test) conducted by one of the participating NITs.
Presently there are 11 participating NITs in this entrance test. This provides opportunity to all the participants of entire India to join MCA Program.
Later on in the year 2011 the Department started Ph. D research Program in the field of Computer Applications.
The Department is rich in terms of faculty, laboratory/classroom facility and campus placement.
About the Program: This Post Graduate Degree Program includes coursework in Information technology, Operating Systems, Computer Organisation & Architecture, various languages (C, Computer Graphics using C++, JAVA etc.), Database Management Systems, Data Structure, Software Engineering, Formal Language & Automata Theory, Compiler Design, Mobile Computing, Digital image Processing, Parallel Processing etc.
To impart the knowledge of reasoning, analytical ability for various competitive examinations the course includes subject as Mathematical Foundation of Computer Science, Statistical Computing, Computer oriented Numerical Analysis etc.
For overall development of student subjects such as Professional Communication in English, Oral and Written Communication and Practicals and Training of Personality Development, Interview Preparation, Group Discussion etc. are also included in curriculum
This overall combination of subjects gives them sound and excellent background for any competitive environment. This also provides them with increase opportunity in Institute’s Campus Placement.
