Vision -

  • The Department aims for global recognition in teaching, research and community services and raising the standard of Chemical Engineering education in the latest art of the technology, constantly improving the quality and skills at undergraduate and post graduate levels, emphasizing on novel research and development that leads to a socioeconomically feasible technology.

Mission -

  • To impart quality education in the field of Chemical Engineering to produce professionally competent engineers for the benefit of the society at large.

B.Tech. Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs) -

  1. To prepare students for diverse career in engineering and allied fields
  2. To make them professional to apply principles of chemical engineering in solution of practical problems
  3. To impart skills of leadership as well as group work among students
  4. To introduce them with not only the basics but also advanced skills so that they can opt their career
  5. To make the graduates well skilled with ethical values so that they could benefit the society through their services
  6. To provide opportunity for students to work as part of teams on multidisciplinary Projects with the multifaceted aspects of using computers/software and thus culminating in both written and oral presentations of results
  7. To develop skills necessary for advanced research among the students to address multiple issues in Chemical Engineering through project works.

B.Tech. Programme Outcomes (POs) -

Upon graduation, we expect
  1. Students will have an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering to chemical engineering problems
  2. Students will have an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data

The Chemical Engineering department was established in the year 1962 under the aegis of Government College of Engineering and Technology, Raipur (now NIT, Raipur). The first post-graduate degree with specialization in chemical process design was awarded in the year 1998. The Department is successfully and continuously preparing the under-graduates and post-graduates for working as Engineers / Scientist in various central, state, public and private sector organizations and to pursue higher studies in premier institutions in India and abroad.


The department is offering undergraduate course (B.Tech in Chemical engineering) and one post-graduate course (M.Tech in Chemical Engineering Process Design). At present the intake of the department is 62 at under graduate and 20 at post graduate level. Ph.D. programme with the financial assistance of MHRD is also available in the department. Currently, 14 Ph.D. scholars are enrolled as full time and 16 as part time, conducting their research in various streams of chemical engineering.


The Department has been successfully carrying out testing and consultancy projects for over four decades and now expects to play a major role in the development of chemical industries. Faculty members of our department successfully completed two research projects and two more research projects are ongoing, sponsored by various funding agencies. The department has organized some international conferences and short-term courses. There are 12 regular and 3 temporary faculty members in the department.
